NaNoWriMo Day Three & Four: The Feels

NANOWRIMO & ME, YO
DAYS THREE & FOUR: THE FEELS

In the previously entries, I discussed participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time in five years. I'm working on a fresh draft of Ashland's Asylum, beginning with the story "Lovefall," a tale about a man who believes he can foresee death moments before it happens. What's more interesting than his alleged gift is what he decides to do with it.

Before, I focused more on the actual word count. This time, I am going to reflect on the actual mood & mindset of the writing.

FEELINGS

In the past, I've had a bit of fun looking at the following data, but this time around, I thought I would explain a little bit more about 750words, which I use to collect it.

1. The results are based on the "various emotional content of each day's entry utilizing a "text-analysis system called the Regressive Imagery Dictionary."

2. The Regressive Imagery Dictionary "is a content analysis coding scheme designed to measure primordial vs. conceptual thinking."  Primordial thinking does not really account for the confines of reality, whereas conceptual thinking is more grounded in reality and focused on solving the matters at hand.

3. The creator of 750words had the idea of using his system in a similar light to mediation, which I agree it is great for. You feel better by free-writing. Free-writing is letting your brain and fingers go at it editing until later. The creator, however, doesn't share what he creates on 750 words. I don't dare share my drafts from 750 words until they have been polished over and over again, but I do use the system for future works.

4. With free-writing in mind, there are two ways to look at the following data. You can assume it reflects the writer's mood and mindset, or the story's. For someone that primarily uses the platform to reflect and write about what is bothering them, the loose statistics would reflect them. For someone solely writing a fictional work, it would focus more on the tale. However, I always like to think fiction is rooted in reality, so it could very well be the story was influenced by my own life. It's only makes sense, right?

WORDS & MISC.

Picture
Later on today (hopefully), I'll slide out another entry about the actual word count from Day Three and Day Four of NaNoWriMo. I would release the information now, but I am still scheduled to write a couple more times today. Already I knocked out over 1,100 words in 40 minutes and plan on burning through another 2,300 at least with a goal of 3,800 by midnight. You might get the pre-midnight post. (The button will be active once the second post for today is live.)

In the meantime, maybe you're interested in what the weather was like while I was writing? I might start keeping track of factors like the weather too. For instance, I wrote up a literal storm the other night with no idea what the weather was going to be like by the evening. You can take a guess what soon happened outside.

You can keep track of your stats and metadata too by checking out 750words! They don't pay me to promote them, but since I like to use their site for this information, I figure it's only right to give them a cheap pop.

Thanks for reading!
