NaNoWriMo Week Two: The Words

WEEK TWO: THE WORDS

As I neared the halfway point of "Lovefall," I've reached some high & low points and discovered somethings about my writing & myself along the way. In Part One of Week Two, I'll focus on The Words.

One I realized was that I neared the halfway mark of NaNoWriMo itself. There was some relief. "Strife" isn't too long of a tale, and I didn't suspect the new version of "Cult, Inc." to be either. But when I thought about about "Familiar Facades" or "Ashland's Asylum," the dread sunk back in tenfold.

In the meantime, let's at the first six days of Week Two and what changes in my writing may have occurred.

NANOWRIMO DAY FIVE: RECOVERY

DAY FIVE: RECOVERY

This month I'm participating in NaNoWriMo by writing a new draft of Ashland's Asylum, starting with the story "Lovefall."

I fell short of my goals during the work week, but I was confident I'd recover over the weekend. However, that all was in question after I awoke from an unexpected slumber.

Today marks the end of the weekend for me, which means I had to make it count. See if I was able to recover during Day Five of NaNoWrimo, as well as look into some of the finer details behind the writing as it progresses.

DAYS THREE & FOUR: THE WORDS

This morning I woke up with my face on a pile of crumpled papers, some of the black ink from the pages on my fingertips and chin. I didn't recall passing out on an outline of "Lovefall" from Ashland's Asylum, but I did. I immediately wondered two things: 1.) Did I finish posting the second part of the Days 3&4 Blog? Did I reach goal yesterday? One of those answers is now obvious.

Here's an update on my progress from Days Three & Four of NaNoWriMo, as I head into Day Five. Check out not only the stats but also some of the changes in rating and mood that happened over time.

NaNoWriMo Day Three & Four: The Feels

DAYS THREE & FOUR: THE FEELS

In the previously entries, I discussed participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time in five years. I'm working on a fresh draft of Ashland's Asylum, beginning with the story "Lovefall," a tale about a man who believes he can foresee death moments before it happens. What's more interesting than his alleged gift is what he decides to do with it.

Before, I focused more on the actual word count. This time, I am going to reflect on the actual mood & mindset of the writing.

DAY TWO: WRITING "LOVEFALL"

Yesterday I came up with a few goals for writing a brand-spankin'-new draft of Ashland's Asylum and also shared my progress after the first day of NaNoWriMo.

Today, I share Day Two's success -- or is it lack thereof? -- as well as some insight.

BECAUSE WHY NOT?

It's been a couple or five years since the last time I participated in NaNoWriMo, but this year I'm giving it another shot. I don't see why not. In fact, in 2011 I managed to crank out nearly 72k words.

This time I am going to work on a fresh draft of Ashland's Asylum. My medium will once again be 750 words.

Here is my goal: Write a brand-new 70k-word draft of Ashland's Asylum by Dec. 01, 2016.  See how my first day went.
